Canada's banks are blocking AI agents too. Who will let one in?

On 28 October 2026 The Canadian Press reported that RBC, TD and BMO are blocking third-party personal AI agents from their online banking, CIBC does not support them opening or accessing accounts, and Scotiabank will limit them. National Bank said it is monitoring.

RBC's chief executive said that nothing is more important than the security of client information. The week before, JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Citi and Morgan Stanley were reported to be doing the same in the United States.

Two countries' largest banks have now given the same answer to the same question: when an agent moves a customer's money, can anyone show what the customer asked for, and that the agent stayed inside it? Until someone can, the answer stays no.

This is a reading of public reporting, not legal advice.
